About Ensign and Ghana

What is the official language of Ghana?
English is the official language of Ghana and all courses are taught in English. Many more indigenous languages are spoken throughout the country.
What should students know about Ghana?
Ghana is the second most populous country in West Africa. Accra is the capital and largest city with other major cities of Kumasi and Tamale. Ghana hosts a diverse population with many different tribes, languages, and religions. The country is also a young democracy, gaining its independence from Britain in 1957. In 2019, Ghana was the fastest-growing economy in the world and it remains one of the most stable governments on the continent of Africa. The climate is tropical and consists of two seasons - wet and dry. The country is also equatorial with the sun rising and setting at roughly the same time year-round. Ghana is on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and is 5 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time (4 hours ahead of Eastern Daylight Time)
Where is the Ensign Global Campus located?
Ensign Global College is located in the town of Kpong in the Eastern Region of Ghana, 45 miles northeast of the capital city of Accra. Ensign Global is a modern, beautiful, state-of-the-art campus that sits along the banks of the Volta River. The campus offers high speed internet access, classrooms with current technology, a pool, and a fitness center, all in a safe and secure setting. Carefully prepared meals are served in a community dining hall for all students and staff.

Application and Admissions

Will I have an interview?
Yes, applicants who have met the admissions requirements will be interviewed by the Admissions Committee before acceptance. This will be scheduled virtually and may require flexibility due to time differences.
What are the application deadlines?
For a first-semester start in September, international applicants will need to complete their application by June 30th. A priority deadline of June 1st is required to qualify for scholarships. For a second semester to start in February, international applicants will need to complete their application by October 31st. A priority deadline of October 1st is required to qualify for scholarships.
What are the application requirements?
Applicants are required to have completed a bachelor’s degree, GPA above 3.0, and a strong quantitative skillset. The GRE is not required. Applicants need to complete an online application, upload their transcripts, passport photo, resume, or curriculum vitae (CV), and provide a statement of purpose.

Curriculum

Is the MPH program accredited?
Yes. The Master of Public Health is fully accredited by CEPH. Graduate of the program are well-positioned for employment opportunities around the world.
When is graduation?
Graduation ceremonies are held once a year in mid-November.
How many credit hours is the MPH?
The Master of Public Health (MPH) is 45 credits hours, including the applied practice experience and thesis. There are optional certifications in Anti Human-Trafficking, Health and Safety, and Information Communication Technology. Please see the curriculum for details.
Does the MPH program assist students with Practicum placement?
Yes. Ensign Global faculty and advisors work with students on an individual basis to help tailor practicum experiences to students’ specific interests. Practicums can be conducted within Ghana, across Africa, and/or globally.
How long does it take to complete an MPH Program at Ensign Global College?
Students will complete two semesters of coursework and one semester of thesis work. Students who begin in September (first semester) will complete coursework by the end of May/beginning of June and defend their thesis at the end of August/first of September. Students who begin coursework in February will complete their coursework in December and complete their thesis the following year at the end of August/first of September.

Campus

What’s included in the student housing rooms?
Student rooms include a bed, desk and chair, wardrobe, and private bath. Linens, bedding, and towels are also included.
Where is student housing?
Student housing is steps away from the classrooms, library, computer lab, administrative offices, and dining hall for convenience and for students to fully immerse themselves in their graduate studies.
Are meals included?
Yes. Meals are included in our housing and meal plan through our culinary services team. There are no cooking facilities in student housing, but meal requests can be made in-advance to the culinary team.
How are the facilities at Ensign Global Campus?
Ensign is a state-of-the-art campus that opened in 2014 and is meticulously maintained. Campus features include on-site culinary service, high-speed internet, uninterrupted electrical power, a water filtration system, and 24-hour security. Student rooms are steps away from classrooms and are fully furnished with a private bathroom. The 50-acre campus also includes a conference center, classrooms, computer lab, library, auditorium, swimming pool, fitness center, basketball and tennis courts, and covered outdoor space.
Is the campus safe?
Yes! Ensign Global College campus is a fully contained campus with a security gate and 24/7 campus security. Student and guest safety is our number one priority. The town of Kpong is also very safe.

Health

What if I get sick?
Ensign has a clinic on-site staffed by a full-time physician and nurse who can treat most minor conditions on campus. Our team is also well-connected to clinics and hospitals in the region if additional care is required.

Travel

Can I travel throughout Africa during course breaks?
Absolutely. Students have a break from mid-December until the first of February and can use Ghana as a starting point for many different countries in Africa for reasonable costs. Egypt, Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa, and numerous other countries are easily accessible. International students can also return home for breaks, should they so choose.
Are there travel opportunities in Ghana?
Yes! Ghana has many opportunities to experience life, from the modern growing metropolis of Accra to a serene rural safari experience in the northern region. Our team at Ensign Global College can help coordinate your excursions and travel for an additional fee.
What type of transportation is available for travel within Ghana?
Taxis are available. Our on-campus hosts can help you arrange safe and reliable transportation.
How do I get from the airport to Ensign Global Campus?
Our on-campus hosts will pick you up at the airport and safely transport you to Ensign Global Campus. Our team will be waiting for you as you exit Kotoka International Airport.
How do I apply for a student visa in Ghana?
Our staff will provide you with step-by-step instructions to guide you through the visa process. Please see the application page and contact our offices if you have any questions.

Electronics

Should I bring a laptop to campus?
Yes. Please bring any electronic devices you will need for your graduate studies and communication. Please also bring any electrical adapters needed for this equipment.
What type of electrical electric adapter do I need to bring?
Ghana uses both type D and G adapters.

Why Ensign?

What are the advantages earning a Master of Public Health at Ensign Global College?
The MPH at Ensign Global is the first-ever CEPH accredited program not only in Ghana, but across the entire African continent. This selective program is one year in duration and, by American graduate program standards, extremely cost effective. In addition, scholarship and other funding is available. At Ensign Global, students have opportunities to gain meaningful, hands-on field experience and differentiate themselves from other public health professionals. Applicants from outside of Ghana and the African Continent who join the Fall 2025 cohort will proudly be able to claim being part the first international class following the program’s CEPH accreditation in March, 2024.
